3 Things to Consider When Booking A Housekeeper Through NDIS

Introduction

Are you looking for a housekeeper through NDIS funding? Do you have questions about NDIS funding for housekeeping services?

We have created this comprehensive guide to answer all of your initial questions about NDIS coverage of housekeeping. In short YES, we can provide NDIS approve support for housekeeping.

Does the NDIS cover Housekeeping Services?

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) may cover some housekeeping services for participants who have a reasonable and necessary need for such support as part of their disability-related needs.

Under the NDIS, housekeeping services are generally considered to be a form of “daily living support.” These types of supports are designed to help participants with their everyday activities, such as cleaning, cooking, and laundry, among others.

Whether or not housekeeping services are covered by the NDIS will depend on each individual participant’s specific circumstances and needs. The NDIS will assess each participant’s needs and determine whether such supports are reasonable and necessary to help them achieve their goals.

It’s worth noting that the NDIS generally does not cover housekeeping services that are considered to be the responsibility of the participant’s family or carers.

If you are an NDIS participant and are unsure whether housekeeping services are covered as part of your plan, you should discuss your specific needs with your NDIS planner or support coordinator. You may be eligible for a housekeeper through NDIS funding.

What NDIS-approved tasks can a housekeeper help me with?

A housekeeper through NDIS can help with the daily tasks that need to be done around the home, especially in the case that there are multiple family members requiring assistance for daily living. Tasks can include:

  1. Cleaning (dishwasher, floors, general cleaning)
  2. Tidying up (putting items away, etc)
  3. Laundry (washing, drying, folding, putting away)
  4. Linen Changes

Does GYH provide Housekeepers for NDIS Participants?

Yes. We absolutely cover participants who wish to claim services under their NDIS plan. This is on a case-by-case basis, as discussed with your planner or support coordinator. They can tell you if you can access a housekeeper through NDIS funding, based on your plan.

Do you qualify for funding for a housekeeper?

First things first, you’ll need to make sure you qualify for funding for a cleaner. Cleaning and home maintenance fall under the Core Support ‘Assistance with Daily Living’. So, if you have funds allocated to this category, you can use this support.

Is GYH a registered NDIS agent?

No. But, this does not mean you cannot use the NDIS to have services with us. Many of our clients have a housekeeper through NDIS funding.

NDIS participants are a small part of our business, which means we have not gone through the lengthy, time-consuming process of becoming a ‘registered’ agent. This does not mean that we are not able to help. At the end of the day, you can use any agent that you like (so long as the funding is there and the hourly rate is lower than the rate supplied under the category).

Many housekeeping agencies are not registered agents, we are covered as we:

  1. Set up a service agreement with you about services to be delivered
  2. Have a fixed hourly price, which is funded under “Core Support”.

I need help with decluttering and housekeeping, can you help?

Get You Housekeeping is partnered with Get You Organised, which handles the short term decluttering services. GYH on the other hand, provides ongoing, long-term home housekeeping services.

You will find that both housekeeping and professional organising can be covered by Core Support packages, but you should check with your plan manager or support coordinator to ensure you have the funding.
